Steve Ng-controlled Merdeka Mall to change face of retail business in Kuching


KUCHING: In the pursuit of creating more retail spaces, taking more risks could be the recipe to long-term success.
Unknown to many, most high-end malls nationwide operate based on a rent-only model. Lots are not sold for quick profit or to aid construction cash flow.
Having a rent-only mall — or one that has significantly fewer sold lots — means the mall’s management would have greater say from simple things like operating hours to important “pull” factors like tenancy mix.

Dennis Ling-controlled Hubline Bhd to double fleet


Ling: ‘The Sarawak economy is still quite vibrant.'KUCHING: Hubline Bhd has more than doubled its fleet of vessels servicing the routes between Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and Peninsular Malaysia due to a stronger demand for cargo transportation.
Chief executive officer Dennis Ling said the company now deployed a fleet of nine vessels to serve ports in east Malaysia, Brunei and the peninsula compared with four in March.

Dato Sri Abu Bekir-owned Sarawak Cable inks deal for Sarwaja


KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Cable Bhd has entered into a share sale agreement with Austin Corp (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for the proposed acquisition of the remaining 25% equity in Sarwaja Timur Sdn Bhd (STSB) it does not already own for RM11.02mil, to be satisfied via the issuance of 5.2 million new shares of 50 sen each in Sarawak Cable at an issue price of RM2.12.
